The Saint Isaac’s Cathedral is the most sumptuous and grandiose of St. Petersburg. The work of the French architect Auguste Montferrand that took 40 years to capture his majestic work in the heart of the city. The dome of the Cathedral is considered the fourth in Europe for its size. For 60 years the Cathedral of St. Isaac was considered the main cathedral of the country in which more than twelve thousand people could enter at the same time.
In 1928 the Cathedral was closed to the cult and after 3 years that’s how the Museum of Atheism began to work.
